Published: 1963-to date, Bucharest
Editor: The Institute of Biology, Bucharest
Publisher: Publishing House of the Romanian Academy
Frequency: Annual | |
Link: Revue Roumaine de Biologie
Notes: Through the years, various publications of the Romanian Academy (founded 1866) have hosted original papers of Romanian scientists, among them biologists, starting with the "founding fathers" of Romanian botany, Dimitrie Grecescu (Dr. of the University of Paris, 1868), and Dimitrie Brândză (Dr. of the University of Paris, 1869): Bulletin de la Section Scientifique de l'Academie Roumaine (1912-1948), Analele Academiei Române, Memoriile Secţiunii Ştiinţifice, seria 1-3 (??-??), Revista științifică "V. Adamachi" (1910-1949), Analele Academiei R.P.R. Seria: Geologie, Geografie, Biologie, Științe tehnice și agricole (1949-1950), Buletin știinific - Academia R.P.R. (1952-1957), Comunicările Academiei R.P.R. (1951-1963). Thus, Revue Roumaine de Biologie, published exclusively in French (from 2005 onwards renamed to Romanian Journal of Biology, published exclusively in English) is part of a long line of bulletins and journals wherein renowned Romanian and foreign botanists have published their works. A number of volumes are available for download from its www archive. |
Ocrotirea Naturii și a Mediului Înconjurător
Published: 1955-to date, Bucharest
Publisher: Publishing House of the Romanian Academy
Frequency: Annual | |
Link: Ocrotirea Naturii și a Mediului Înconjurător
Notes: A very important journal, not least for promoting Nature conservation, Ocrotirea Naturii și a Mediului Înconjurător (English: Safeguarding of Nature and Environment) was originally named Ocrotirea Naturii (1955-1970). Many important botany papers were published here, either about existing reserved areas or advocating the creation of new ones, and also to raise awareness of endangered plant species, including some Romanian endemites. Unfortunately, almost no information is available on the World Wide Web about this journal. |

Notes: One of the most important Romanian journal of botany was, without doubt, Studii şi cercetări de biologie. Seria biologie vegetală (English: Studies and research of biology. Plant biology series). Between 1964-1973, the journal was renamed to Studii şi cercetări de biologie. Seria botanică. Very similar regarding its aims and scope to Revue Roumaine de Biologie, but published exclusively in Romanian, the journal hosted the same high quality papers from renown botanists of the time.
